Santa Clara dominates German Open

Santa Clara kicked off the 2002 season with a solid performance at the German Open held March 8-10 in Bonn, winning the solo, duet and team events to capture the meet's overall title. Bill May defeated Junior World Champion Anastasia Davydova of Russia, 98.000 to 96.500 in the free routine final. SCA's Sara Lowe finished fourth in prelims behind May, Davydova and Russia's Anastassia Ermakova. New partners Anna Kozlova and Alison Bartosik won the duet event with a score of 96.000 in the free final. Switzerland's Magdalena Brunner and Belinda Schmid finished second at 92.000. With Bartosik and Kozlova competing together in 2002, May will swim duet with Kristina Lum. In the team event, it was SCA all the way, earning a 97.667 to hold off Greece at 93.000 and Switzerland at 89.833. Swimming for Santa Clara were May, Lowe, Kozlova, Bartosik, Tammy Crow, Kendra Zanotto, Lauren McFall and Andrea Nott.
