Technical Element Changes from the FINA Seminar
Technical changes approved at the FINA World Synchronized Swimming Seminar
February 19, 2002
At the February FINA seminar in Dallas, Texas several FINA technical elements were discussed. Key officials have approved the following housekeeping changes:
1. Clarification on Eggbeater element: Add the word "and" to phrase: "...travel forward AND/or sideways and contain a sequence of arm movements which includes both arms out of the water at the same time..." This is to clarify the obvious and it means swimmers can choose to swim in one or both directions.
2. Platform requirement for team. There is NO limitation on number of positions required anymore (no one could agree on what constituted "two positions changes"!). So, delete the phrase: "with a maximum of two position changes during ascent and/or descent." The rulebook description of platform should now end on: "person being supported must rise head first."
Please note, the new FINA rulebook will be re-printed and ready in June. Also, the new FINA Manual for Judges, Coaches and Referees is now available through FINA. It is highly recommended that every coach have one, as it is the "new testament" and guide of FINA judges all over.
Any questions regarding these changes should be directed to our National Team Director, Linai Vaz de Negri. |
