Stanford Claims Collegiate Championship Title
Host Stanford Defends 2005 Title at Home
Palo Alto, Calif. – The 30th annual U.S. Collegiate Synchronized Swimming Championships concluded today at Stanford University. The Cardinal (96 points) claimed the 2006 U.S. Synchronized Swimming Championship title in front of a home crowd at Avery Aquatic Center. The Ohio State University scored 92 points en route to a second place finish.
Third place went to the University of the Incarnate Word (69 points) while fourth place was occupied by the University of Alabama at Birmingham (61 points). Keuka College took home fifth place (46.5 points) and Canisius College (44 points) finished the competition in sixth place.
Day three featured the finals of the trio and duet in the morning and solo and team competition in the afternoon. Stanford sophomore and 2004 Olympian Sara Lowe swept the competition by claiming the solo title (95.333) and teaming up with 2004 Olympian (representing Canada) Courtenay Stewart to grab the duet title (95.833). National Team I Member Becky Kim (The Ohio State) claimed the top spot in the trio final (93.667) along with teammates Ellen Hacker and Carmen Moraes .
More than 200 of the top athletes from the collegiate scene made their way to Avery Aquatic Center to vie for titles in the solo, duet, trio, and team events. The championships are an open-class meet, combining competition from NCAA Divisions I, II and III and NAIA colleges and universities.
