Oxford, Ohio – The 2007 Esynchro U.S. Age Group National Championships continued today at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center . The event is the world’s largest Synchronized Swimming Championships and will run through June 30.

The 13-15 Age Group wrapped up finals competition in the solo, duet, trio and team finals events. Santa Clara took home the top spot in the team event followed by the Nevada Desert Mermaids and Walnut Creek. In the solo event, Alexa Tchekmarev of Troy Synchro took home the gold medal followed by Khadija Zanotto of Santa Clara and Emily Dillon of the Los Gatos Angelfish.

Zanotto also teamed up with Margo Sargent (Santa Clara) to claim the duet title. In the trio event, Walnut Creek’s Haley Barnes, Heidi Homma and Alexandra Sominsky took home the top position.

Competition will resume Wednesday with semi final action in the 16-17 and 18-19 Age Groups. Preliminary scores will be combined with Friday’s figure scores to determine Saturday’s finalists.

The grassroots competition features up-and-coming junior athletes along with several reigning age group national champions. Swimmers are competing for titles in the solo, duet, trio and team events in four age groups: 11-12, 13-15, 16-17 and 18-19.

The championships are hosted by the Cincinnati Synchrogators and Miami University Aquatics. The event includes eight days of competition and carries an estimated economic impact of more than $1.3 million. Oxford, Ohio is no stranger to synchronized swimming as it also played host to the 2002 U.S. National Championships.

Admission will be charged for finals competition only. Adult ticket prices for finals will be $10 and $5 for children. F ollowing is a schedule of events.
