Synchro Meet Kicks Off at Federal Way
12-13 Age Group Showcases Talent in Semi Final Competition

Federal Way, Wash. - The 2006 Esynchro U.S. Age Group National Championships kicked off today at the Weyerhaeuser King Aquatic Center. The event is the nation's largest Synchronized Swimming Championships and will run through July 1.

Competition opened with the 12-13 semi finals. The top 20 competitors in the solo and top 10 in the duet and team events advanced to the figures competition which will take place on Sunday. From there, the top eight finishers in each event will advance to finals on Monday.

In the solo semi final, Santa Clara (Santa Clara, Calif.) placed two competitors in the top 20 (2nd and 5th) while the Nevada Desert Mermaids (Henderson, Nev.) (3rd and 10th) and Suncoast Waterworks (Clearwater, Fla.) (11th and 20th) did the same. Santa Clara continued its success in the duet with two top 10 finishes (1st and 4th). Locals Sofia Drogomiretskly and Susan Haldeman paired up to represent Seattle Synchro with a 10th place finish.

In the team competition, Santa Clara made waves with a top finish, followed by the Nevada Desert Mermaids . Local team Seattle Synchro grabbed the sixth place spot.

The grassroots competition features up-and-coming junior athletes along with several reigning age group national champions. Swimmers will compete for titles in the solo, duet, trio and team events in four age groups: 12-13, 14-15, 16-17 and 18-19.

Adult ticket prices for the finals competition will be $10 and $5 for children ages six through 12. Children five and under will be free of charge. Admission will be charged for finals competition only, which will take place on Monday, June 26, Tuesday, June 27 and Saturday, July 1 beginning at 3:15 p.m. each day.
