Oxford, Ohio – The 2007 Esynchro U.S. Age Group National Championships continued today at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center . The event is the world’s largest Synchronized Swimming Championships and will run through June 30.
The 11-12 age bracket wrapped up today with finals competition in the solo, duet, trio and team events. Top finishers in the team event included the Walnut Creek Aquanuts, followed by the Los Gatos Angelfish and the Santa Clara Aquamaids. In the solo event, Walnut Creek’s Karime Andere claimed the title, while Emily Drew of Seattle Synchro took home the second place position.
The top position in the duet was taken by Jamie Kuchan and Courtney Johnson of the Arizona Aqua Stars, while Walnut Creek’s Rina Horii, Suying Rothrock and Marisa Tashima took home gold in the trio event.
Also today, the 13-15 Age Group kicked off semi final action in the duet, trio and team events. The top 10 competitors in each discipline advanced to the figures competition, which will take place on Tuesday. From there, the top eight finishers in each event will advance to finals, beginning Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. For complete 13-15 semi final results, check www.usasynchro.org.
The grassroots competition features up-and-coming junior athletes along with several reigning age group national champions. Swimmers are competing for titles in the solo, duet, trio and team events in four age groups: 11-12, 13-15, 16-17 and 18-19.
The championships are hosted by the Cincinnati Synchrogators and Miami University Aquatics. The event includes eight days of competition and carries an estimated economic impact of more than $1.3 million. Oxford, Ohio is no stranger to synchronized swimming as it also played host to the 2002 U.S. National Championships.
