Oxford, Ohio – The 2007 Esynchro U.S. Age Group National Championships kicked off today at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center . The event is the world's largest Synchronized Swimming Championships and will run through June 30.
Competition opened with the 11-12 semi finals. The top 20 competitors in the solo and top 10 in the duet and team events advanced to the figures competition which will take place on Sunday. From there, the top eight finishers in each event will advance to finals on Monday.
The grassroots competition features up-and-coming junior athletes along with several reigning age group national champions. Swimmers will compete for titles in the solo, duet, trio and team events in four age groups: 11-12, 13-15, 16-17 and 18-19.
The championships are hosted by the Cincinnati Synchrogators and Miami University Aquatics. The event includes eight days of competition and carries an estimated economic impact of more than $1.3 million. Oxford, Ohio is no stranger to synchronized swimming as it also played host to the 2002 U.S. National Championships.
Admission will be charged for finals competition only. Adult ticket prices for finals will be $10 and $5 for children.
