May Continues to Dominate In Switzerland


Bill May captured his sixth solo title in six attempts last weekend at the 27th annual Swiss Open.

May took command from the start turning in the top technical routine performance posting a 96.834. Masako Tachibana of Japan followed with a 94.500. The following day, May's free routine was well-liked by the judges earning him a 97.500 to Tachibana's 95.167.

May ended with an overall score of 97.167 to earn gold. Tachibana finished second with a 94.834, while Canada's Marie Gagnon Boudreau took third scoring a 93.834. The overall score is 50% of the technical routine score and 50% of the free routine score combined.

May, of Cicero, N.Y., won double gold earlier this year at the U.S National Championships in East Meadow, NY. May topped the field in solo and then partnered with Kristina Lum to win the duet competition.
