United States Synchronize Swimming Foundation

The USSS Foundation was founded as a result of monies, which were given to USSS after the successful 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. At that time, the Board of Governors make a very wise decision to use the money to start a foundation which would continue to support USSS and the sport of synchronized swimming in the U.S. The Foundation has invested the principal with the U.S. Olympic Foundation so those very high-level investment professionals manage our funds. The corpus of the fund is now in excess of $2 million.

Each year, the Foundation Board of Trustees receives requests from organizations (including USSS) for grants to assist with their work in promoting synchronized swimming. The Foundation annually grants monies to organizations for these worthy projects. The amounts vary from year to year because all of the money distributed through grants comes solely from the Foundation’s dividends earnings. The corpus of the Foundation is to remain intact so that there will always be funds available to the sport.

A Board of Trustees of nine people governs the Foundation. The Board of Governors of United States Synchronized Swimming elects six of the Trustees and the Board of Trustees elects three additional members.

Funds have been granted for the following types of programs:

  • Grass roots development in town recreation departments surrounding a certain geographic area.
  • Coaching Certification Program attendance for coaches.
  • Coaches training for new coaches in a geographic area.
  • Public relations in an area that is trying to develop the sport.
