| Kozlova and Bartosik Win Gold at Pan Am Games
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic - The best was saved for last as the U.S. duet of Anna Kozlova (St. Petersburg, Russia) and Alison Bartosik (Santa Clara, Calif.) drew the last swim of the competition and inspired the crowd with their free routine capturing the gold medal scoring a composite 95.917.
´´We are very, very happy and excited,´´ said Bartosik. ´´Our swim felt good and together. The crowd really liked it which was inspiring to us.´´
The duo held a slim lead over Canadians´ Fanny Letourneau and Courtenay Stewart going into the free swim. The U.S. added to that lead today winning by 0.333. Canada finished with a score of 95.584.
Head coach Chris Carver was pleased with the swim. ´´They had a pretty solid swim up until the end,´´ stated Carver. ´´They had two minor errors, but that didn´t overshadow the rest of the routine.´´
Carver was excited to reclaim the top spot in the duet competition at the Pan Am Games. ¨I am very pleased because the last time was when Becky Dyroen and Jill Savery swam in 1995.¨
Former Ohio State University swimmers Carolina Moraes and Isabela Moraes, swimming for their home country of Brazil, finished third posting a 91.833.
Competition concludes Friday with the team free event. Events results will be available on www.usasynchro.org. For more information or to receive results directly, contact Amy McClintock at mediadir@usasynchro.org.
