Inaugural Event Ends with Much Success
Orlando, FL—The first ASUA Junior Pan American Synchronized
Swimming Championships ended finals competition this afternoon for
Duet and Combo. Fans, athletes and participants bid farewell to
a successful inaugural event.
The United States couldn’t be happier with the performance
of team members Christina Jones and Annabelle Orme as they succeeded
in holding on to the gold medal in the Duet competition. They narrowly
held on to this position with a final composite score of 82.757.
Canadian athletes Vanessa Lavoie and Elise Marcotte placed second
with a final composite score of 82.006. Brazil rounded out the medal
placement with athletes Carmen Lucia Moraes and Lara Teixeira earning
a final composite score of 78.982. Teams placing in the top ten
include Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Dominican
Republic and finally Aruba.
The Combo event was the final event of the day with only four countries
competing. The crowd favorite combo event is a routine that combines
all syncho events. In these routines you will see one or two solos,
one or two duets, and a team performance. The first time the Combo
event appeared in a World Championship was in Barcelona, Spain in
2003. The United States “Cha, Cha Girls” comprised of
Brooke Abel, Erin Bell, Debbie Chen, Danielle DeCarlo, Meghan Kinney,
Lauren Oiye, Jillian Penner, Deborah Shim and reserve athletes Michelle
Theriault and Carolyn Watts, shook and flipped their way into the
gold medal position. Their gold medal performance was with a total
composite score of 89.333. Brazil athletes, Beatriz Feres, Branca
Feres, Nayara Figueria, Julia Franco, Adriana Gregorut, Carmen Lucia
Moraes, Pamela Nogueira, Giovana Stephan and reserve athletes Marcel
Takami and Lara Teixeira, earned the silver medal performance. Their
total composite score was 87.833. The bronze medal winners for this
event were Colombia with athletes Asly Alegria, Margarita Betancourt,
Jennifer Cerquera, Ingrid Vanessa Cubillos, Melissa Echeverry, Maritza
Valencia, Luana Pratto, Maria Cecilia Reina and reserve athletes
Diana Rozo and Irina Rueda.
