ASUA Jr. Pan American Synchro Competition Produces Thunder in the Pool

U.S. and Canada share the top

Orlando, FL—The first ASUA Junior Pan American Synchronized Swimming Championships ended finals competition this evening for Team and Solo amongst turbulent weather. Severe weather delayed this evening’s final event for nearly two-hours, but competition was fierce once all events began.

Twelve countries competed in the final round for Solo competition at the YMCA Aquatic Center. The stands were full of exuberant fans cheering their countries on to victory and a gold medal at this inaugural event. Claiming the top spot for Solo competition was United States of America athlete, Christina Jones with an overall composite score of 82.592. Taking the silver medal was Elise Marcotte of Canada with a composite score of 82.220. The bronze medal was awarded to Nayara Figueira of Brazil with a final composite score of 78.338. Those rounding out the top ten include Jennifer Cerquera or Colombia, Liliana Alfaro of Mexico, Mary Alejandra Soto of Venezuela, Constanza Morales of Chile, Mariel Bros of the Dominican Republic, Carine Kimberly Vinck of Aruba and finally Natalia Dreutti of Argentina.

While the U.S. ruled the number one spot in Solo competition, Canada holds bragging rights for winning the gold medal in the Team event. Canadian athletes Jennifer Knobbs, Vanessa Lavoie, Elise Marcotte, Alison McKenny, Anastasia Polonska, Belinda Potvin Serres, Samantha Standeven, Caitlin Stewart, Genevieve Belanger, and Courtney Brown finished with a composite score of 81.577. The United States comprised of athletes Brooke Abel, Erin Bell, Meghan Kinney, Lauren Oiye, Jillian Penner, Deborah Shim, Michelle Theriault, Carolyn Watts, Debbie Chen, and Danielle DeCarlo claimed their silver medal performance with a final composite score of 80.865. The third place team of this evening’s event was Brazil, comprised of athletes Beatriz Feres, Branca Feres, Nayara Figueira, Adirana Gregorut, Ingrid Vanessa Cubillos, Diana Rozo, Irina Rueda, Luana Pratto, Maritza Valencia, Melissa Echeverry and Maria Cecilia Reina. Their bronze medal performance was claimed with a final composite score of 77.484.

Final competition for Duet and Combo will take place on Sunday beginning at 12:00 pm.
