ASUA Pan American Synchro Championships Makes Splash in Orlando
U.S. Team On Top Leading Into Finals
Orlando, FL—The first ASUA Junior Pan American Synchronized
Swimming Championships ended the preliminary rounds today with the
U.S. on top heading into final competition.
13 countries competed today in the preliminary rounds for Solo and
Duet competition of the ASUA Junior Pan American Synchronized Swimming
Championships at the YMCA Aquatic Center. The stands were full of
cheering sections for Argentina, Aruba, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia,
Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Venezuela
and the United States of America.
Advancing to the Solo competition on Saturday is U.S. Junior National
Team Member Christina Jones with a score of 88.833. 17-year-old
Jones placed fifth last month in the Solo competition at the XI
FINA World Championships in Montreal. Also making it to the finals
competition are Elise Marcotte from Canada, Nayala Figueira from
Brazil and finally with a three-way tie for sixth place Jennifer
Cerquera from Colombia, Liliana Alfaro of Mexico, and Mary Alejandra
Soto of Venezuela.
The U.S. made a strong finish in the Duet preliminary competition
with two routines taking the top spots. Only the first place Duet
of Christina Jones and Annabelle Orme will advance to the finals
on Sunday. Christina Jones and Annabelle Orme finished with a score
of 89.667, while the U.S. Duet of Brooke Abel and Carolyn Watts
placed second with a final score of 88.667. Taking the next two
spots were Canada with the Duet of Anastasia Polonska and Belinda
Serres finishing in third with a final score of 87.333 and the fourth
place finish going to Vanessa Lavoie and Elise Marcotte with a final
score of 87.167. Only the Duet of Polonska and Serres will be advancing
to Sunday’s event. Brazil’s Duet of Carmen Mores and
Lara Teixeira held the fifth place finish with a final score of
84.000.
Final competition for Solo and Team will take place on Saturday
beginning at 6:00 pm. Final competition for Duet and the crowd favorite
Combo routine will take place on Sunday at 12:00 pm. Join us at
the YMCA Aquatic Center for this exciting competition. Tickets can
be purchased at the door for $8 per day. Additional information
