Canada Wins Team Gold
San Diego, Calif.— The Canadians pulled ahead in the final Senior round of the United States Open held at the Poway Community Swim Center in San Diego, Calif. Saturday, winning the team and duet competitions.
The United States soloist, Barb Nesbitt stole first place in the solo competition with a score of 92.167, matching the United States Junior National team’s gold medal solo performance at the beginning of the week. The U.S. bested Canada’s second place finish by 0.417. Canada also took third rounding out two spots in the top three. The U.S. placed fourth with California club, the Santa Clara Aquamaids, placing fifth. Indy Synchro also held two spots in the top 12—eighth and eleventh.
The United States moved to capture two of the top three spots in the duet finals—second and third. Canada placed first. The New Canaan Y Aquianas placed fourth with a score of 88.334.
Canada won the gold medal for the Senior team event with the United States finishing second. California teams, Walnut Creek Aquanuts, Riverside Aquettes, and the Santa Clara Aquamaids finished third, fourth and fifth.
