Junior's Set for Final Showdown
U.S. Team II in Control in Senior Team

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Competition continued Thursday at the U.S. Open Synchronized Swimming Championships held at the University of New Orleans Aquatic Center in New Orleans, La.

Caitlin Stewart of the Riverside Aquettes claimed top honors in two events. She began the day taking a commanding lead in the Junior Solo event after scoring an 86.333. She later teamed with Meryl Grandia and Michelle Theriault to take top honors in the Junior Trio competition with a score of 87.833. Walnut Creek’s Deborah Shim took second in Junior solo scoring a 83.333 and later finished in a tie for second in the Junior trio. She and teammates Erin Bell and Diana LaScala-Gruenewald tied with the Walnut Creek trio of Maria Koroleva, Seyeon Min, and Olivia Morgan at 84.667.

Only five entries made up the Senior trio division. In the free routine competition, Jayme DeLancy, Esme Louiws, and Leayn Pinette of New Canaan (Conn.) along with Walnut Creek’s Rachel Sinn, Alandi Stec-Neifert, and Jeanine Wurzel took first after posting an 82.167. Jennifer Graham, Megan Kinney, and Christina Menth of Redwood Empire (Calif.) finished a distant third at 77.667.

The day continued with the Senior Technical solo competition. Kim Probst of U.S. Team II claimed top honors at 91.667. Canada’s mariePier Boureau Gagnon sits 1.167 behind in second after scoring a 90.500. Aleksandra Lazovic of Seattle sits in third at 81.833.

The day closed with the Senior team free competition. U.S. Team II topped Canada 92.833 to 91.167 to take top honors. The Walnut Creek Aquanuts (Calif.) followed in third at 86.167.

Competition continues Friday with Senior free solo competition at 7:35 a.m. and Senior free duets at 9:20 a.m. The Junior Finals competition will begin at 2:45 p.m. starting with the trio finals followed by duets, solos and teams.
