Five International Teams To Compete at United Airlines Open
Athletes from Coast to Coast and Around the World to Compete
Five international teams along with the nation's top synchronized swimmers will make up a field of more than 400 contenders competing for titles in this year's United Airlines Open Synchronized Swimming Championships to be held July 15-19 at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
The United Airlines Open evolved in the early 1990's and has become the second-most elite event held in the United States next to the U.S National Championships.
This year adds an international twist as Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, and Japan have all entered competitors into the competition. They will compete against some of the top athletes in the U.S. who are also putting forth a last chance effort to qualify for U.S. Team Trials.
The U.S. National Team II and Junior National Teams will also be competing. The two teams were selected earlier this spring and have been training for the last month and a half together. Some members of the two teams will not only compete in the team competitions but the other events as well.
Team II members include Janet Culp (Littleton, Colo.), Jennie Culp (Littleton, Colo.), Kate Hooven (Pleasanton, Calif.), Becky Kim (Walnut Creek, Calif.), Elizabeth-Anne Markman (Pacific Palisades, Calif.), Ashley McHugh (Walnut Creek, Calif.), Kim McKinley (Santa Clara, Calif.), Lindsay Newbill (Laguna Hills, Calif.), Andrea Nott (San Jose, Calif.), and Kim Probst (Troy, NY).
Members of the Junior National Team are Brooke Abel (Northridge, Calif.), Erin Bell (Walnut Creek, Calif.), Poppy Carlig (Richmond, Calif.), Christina Jones (Fremont, Calif.), Danielle Kramer (Mentor, Ohio), Nicole Langley (Portland, Ore.), Barbara Nesbitt (Riverside, Calif.), Annabelle Orme (Walnut Creek, Calif.), Leah Pinette (Bristol, Conn.), and Lesley Wallace (Lafayette, Calif.).
