Junior Finals Go Down to the Wire
Senior Finals Set for Saturday


FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - The Senior prelims wrapped up Friday setting the stage for final showdowns in each event to be held Saturday afternoon at the King County Aquatic Center.

The Peoples Republic of China's Qiu-Ting Sun posted a free routine score of 92.667 to add to her technical solo top honors in the Senior competition. Kim Probst of the United States followed with a 92.000, with Xin Shi of the Peoples Republic of China finishing third at 91.500.

Wen-Wen Jiang and Ting-Ting Jiang of the Peoples Republic of China followed suit taking top honors in both the technical duet and again in today's free duet competition posting a 93.000. Teammates Ou Liu and Xi Luo finished second with a 92.000 followed by United States' duos Janet and Jennie Culp and Kate Hooven and Becky Kim at 91.667.

The day ended with Junior Final competition. Erina Suzuki of the Japan Swim Federation was a double winner taking top honors in both the solo and duet competition. Suzuki scored an 85.834 edging out Canada's Megan Poss who posted an 85.142. Suzuki's teammate, Takako Konishi, placed third with an 84.505, while Barbara Nesbitt (Riverside, Calif.) of the United States finished in fourth at 82.422.

Earlier in the day, Suzuki teamed with Reiko Fujimori (Japan) to win the duet competition scoring an 85.638. Poss and Isabelle Rampling (Canada) finished a close second with an 85.036, while Konishi and Saya Kimura (Japan) placed third at 84.757. The United States duet of Nesbitt and Annabelle Orme (Walnut Creek, Calif.) placed fourth with a score of 83.111.

The Seattle Synchro (Wash.) trio of Jillian Penner, Natalie Chase and Rochelle Rock took top honors in that event posting a 78.206. Meghan Kinney, Jaclyn Mundy and Michelle Theriault of the Riverside Aquettes (Calif.) placed second scoring a 77.872 edging out the Santa Clara Aquamaids' (Calif.) Elizabeth Burns, Fiona Lundie and Bahareh Nikbakht who finished third at 77.470.

The evening closed with the Junior team final. Earlier in the week, the Canada Federation and the United States tied in the free prelim swim. Tonight, Canada took the top honors with a composite score of 84.862 followed by the United States at 82.863. The Walnut Creek Aquanuts (Calif.) placed third posting a 78.947.

Competition will come to a close on Saturday beginning with the Team Combo Finals at 10:30 a.m. The Senior Finals competition will begin at 2:00 p.m. starting with the trio event followed by duets, solos and teams.
