Competition Heats Up on Day Two at the United Airlines Open
The United Airlines Open continued Wednesday at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash. Five areas of competition were completed with the international teams as well as the United States Team looking strong.
The day began with the Senior duet technical competition. Wen-Wen Jiang and Ting-Ting Jiang of the Peoples Republic of China finished first scoring a 91.333. A pair of United States duets, Janet Culp and Jennie Culp as well as Kate Hooven and Becky Kim placed second and third with scores of 90.167 and 89.833 respectively.
The Junior duet free competition followed with Megan Poss and Isabelle Rampling of the Canada Federation taking top honors at 92.833. Two duos from the Japan Swimming Federation followed. Takako Konishi and Saya Kimura along with Erina Suzuki and Reiko Fujimori both scored a 92.167 to tie for second.
Only three entries made up the Senior trio division. In the technical routine competition, Joo Hee Joa, Rachel Sinn and Missy Knight of the Walnut Creek Aquanuts (Calif.) took first after posting an 83.833. Celia Gonzalez, Rebekah Friedman and Julie Luca of Dade Co. (Fla.) finished second with a 78.500, while the Tallahassee Serinas' (Fla.) Catherine Carella, Alexis Legate and Claire Oliver followed at 77.000.
The evening began with the Senior team technical competition. The Peoples Republic of China (94.500), the United States (92.833) and the Santa Clara Aquamaids (Calif.) (88.833) finished 1-2-3 to lead the field of 10.
The day closed with the Junior team free competition. The Canada Federation and the United States finished tied atop the pack both scoring a 91.333. The Walnut Creek Aquanuts (Calif.) followed in third at 86.167.
Competition continues Thursday with Senior Technical solo competition at 8:00 a.m. followed by Junior solos at 9:30 a.m., Senior Free trios at 3:50 p.m., Junior trios at 4:35 p.m. and Senior Free teams at 9:00 p.m.
