International Swimmers Top Junior Figures
United Airlines Open Underway in Federal Way, Wash.
The United Airlines Open kicked of today at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash. with the Junior Figure competition.
Five international teams entered the five-day competition with two making strong statements out of the gate. Erina Suzuki and Reiko Fujimori from Japan took the top two spots in the Junior Figure competition and finished with five competitors in the top 12. Canada finished 3-4-5 while placing five in the top 12. U.S. Junior Team members Christina Jones and Annabelle Orme finished ninth and 11th respectively.
The figures scores are weighted to 50 percent and combined with 50 percent of the athlete(s)'s prelim routine score to determine the 12 finalists in each event. In the final, the 50 percent routine prelim score is replaced with 50 percent of the final routine score.
A full schedule of events is slated for Wednesday's competition beginning with Sr. Technical duet competition at 8:00 a.m. followed by Jr. duets at 9:30 a.m., Sr.
Technical trios at 4:20 p.m., Sr. Technical teams at 5:00 p.m. and Junior teams at 6:15 p.m.
