Aquamaids Swim to 13 th Consecutive Title
California teams follow close behind
Federal Way, Wash—The Santa Clara Aquamaids won their 13 th consecutive title today at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington. Stanford University finished close behind, and the Walnut Creek Aquanuts took third overall.
The Aflac National Synchronized Swimming Championships brought the most elite swimmer from around the national to compete to be the best. Each day offered heightened anticipation as National Team II awaited the announcement of the final roster.
Thursday kicked off with the final phase of Team II trials, and announced Saturday were Heather Burdick, The Ohio State University; Poppy Carlig, Stanford University; Danielle Kramer, University of the Incarnate Word; Jessica McMahon, Santa Clara Aquamaids; Barbara Nesbitt, Riverside Aquettes; Katherine Norris, Stanford University; Leah Pinette, The Ohio State University; Leayn Pinette, The Ohio State University; Alicia Rice, Santa Clara Aquamaids; Layla Smith, Santa Clara Aquamaids. One petitioner is pending.
Santa Clara’s Christina Jones lead the team winning silver in solo, and gold in duet along with her partner Andrea Nott. Her team swam to gold as well, leaving Stanford one step behind. Stanford’s Katie Norris nabbed gold in solo, and took home the Esther Williams Creative Achievement Award for her artistic impression.
Walnut Creek’s team took bronze with a score of 96.000. Junior National Champions, the Riverside Aquettes took fifth after The Ohio State’s University’s fourth-place finish. The Bucks placed second at the Collegiate National Championships.
