2003 Masters Synchronized Swimming Championship held at Cleveland State
Mark your calendars for October 23-26 when the 2003 U.S. Masters Synchronized Swimming Championships, hosted by the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, decend upon the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium on the Cleveland State University campus.
On hand for the event will be 250 of the world's top Masters synchronized swimmers, ranging from 20 to 85+ years old competing for overall team and individual titles in the solo, duet, trio and team events. The event brings an estimated economic impact of more than $250,000 to the region.
The Dayton Synchronettes will look to defend its title after reclaiming top honors at the 2002 Masters Championship in Keuka, N.Y. Dayton's last victory had been at the 2000 championships in Oxford, Ohio. The Synchronettes have won 12 overall titles in the championship's 28-year history.
Local clubs competing in and supporting the event include the Dayton Synchronettes, the Brecksville Blue Dolphins, CCS Tailspinners, and the Columbus Breathless.
The Masters championship began in 1975, making the 2003 event the 29th annual competition. More than 15 U.S. states will be represented among the more than 25 teams expected.
Combining the elements of strength, grace, precision and teamwork, synchronized swimming is considered a preferred fitness activity for older adults by leading sports medicine professionals. U.S. Synchronized Swimming provides a competitive atmosphere for Masters participants built on lifelong friendships through sport.
Competition begins Thursday, October 23 and runs through Sunday, October 26.
