Academic All-Americans Set New Record
A record 155 athletes earned Academic All-American status on Saturday from the U.S. Synchronized Swimming Collegiate Coaches Committee and were honored during the U.S. Collegiate Synchronized Swimming Championships held in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The honorees from 28 universities number nearly half the 250 entries in the 2004 U.S. Collegiate Championships, which will run through Saturday at the the Donald B. Canham Natatorium on the University of Michigan campus.
Athletes must earn at least a 3.25 grade point average (GPA) to be named an Academic All-American.
More than 250 of the nation's top athletes from 29 universities are on hand vying for bragging rights in the solo, duet, trio and team events. The championships are an open-class meet, combining competition for NCAA Divisions I, II and III, plus NAIA schools and clubs.
