Close Finishes in 16-17, 18-19 Finals
Cincinnati, Santa Clara Win Team Competitions

The 16-17 and 18-19 final competitions ended Saturday with six different teams taking the top spots in the eight events. Both Cincinnati (Ohio) and San Diego Calif.) won double gold with New Canaan (Conn.), Austin (Texas), Coral Springs (Fla.), and Santa Clara (Calif.) each taking one.

The day kicked off with the final trio competition. New Canaan and Cincinnati switched spots with from the semi-final standings with Carrie Ryan, Corinne Smith, and Sharada Strasmore taking top honors with a 76.142 and Kaitlin Bolt, Abby Donselman, and Emilie Siemer finishing second at 75.554.

In the 18-19 trio competition, San Diego’s Kim Castagnere, Stephanie Gac, and Mandi Meditz scored a composite 75.251 to win claim gold. Brittany McCauley, Alceste Laurenti, and Ashley Strayer of Tampa Bay (Fla.) finished a close second at 74.514

In the 16-17 duet competition, Bolt and Siemer of Cincinnati claimed the top spot defeating San Diego’s Meditz and Katie Soloway 76.770 to 76.146. Derya Arac and Hanna Mittemeyer of MAC Synchro (Ore.) finished third at 75.598

San Diego’s Catherine Michelle Benzie and Julia Broadfoot ran away with the 18-19 duet gold winning by more than two points posting an 83.833. Heidi McMahon and Christine McMaster of Arizona placed second with a score of 76.408, while Erin DeMarco and Celia Gonzalez of Coral Springs (Fla.) finished third at 75.278.

In the 16-17 solo competition, Austin’s Hannah Ozer took the gold scoring a 78.241. Jayme Delancy of New Canaan finished second scoring a 77.218, while Santa Clara’s Deanna Schmitz, won bronze with a 76.497. In 18-19 solos, the top three places were all within 0.220 points of each other with Celia Gonzalez of Coral Springs (Fla.) taking top honors with a score of 77.677. Arizona’s Ashly Wenzel placed second with a 77.460, while Corenn Cookerly of Indy Synchro finished a close third at 77.457.

The events wrapped up with the 16-17 and 18-19 team finals. Cincinnati came away with the 16-17 title posting a 76.007 with Cerritos (Calif.) finishing second at 75.293. Santa Clara edged the host team Indy Synchro to take the 18-19 title scoring a 77.751 to their 77.685.
