Santa Clara and Cincinnati Tie for First

Locals, the Tonawanda Aquettes, hold on to third

Buffalo, NY – Cincinnati, Santa Clara and Tonawanda shined on the sixth day of competition today at the 2005 esynchro Age Group Championships, being held at the Flickinger Aquatic Center in Buffalo, June 24-July 2.

The west coast climbs back up to the top three spots in 16-17 solo semifinals today. The Santa Clara Aquamaids (Calif.) captured first and third, while the Riverside Aquettes held onto second, with a score 82.333, and fourth with a score of 80.833.

Thursday’s competition continued with the 18-19 duet semifinals, which brought new top contenders. The Cincinnati Synchrogators, coached by USSS President, Ginny Jasontek, led the way in the duet competition. New Canaan Y Aquianas placed second, and the St. Paul Stars nabbed their first top three finish (and eighth place) in the 2005 esynchro Age Group competition thus far. Tying for third place was, local team, The Tonawanda Aquettes, who held two spots in the top eight-- placing duet, Shannon Kilgore and Alicia Gillogly in fifth.

The team competition became a brawl to the finish with the day’s top finishers, Santa Clara and Cincinnati, tying for first place with a score of 84.833 in the 18-19 team competition. Local team, the Tonawanda Aquettes pulled out a third place finish—advancing them to the finals.

Preliminary scores are weighted to 50 percent and combined with 50 percent of the athlete(s)'s figures score to determine the eight finalists in each event. In the final, the 50 percent free routine prelim score is replaced with 50 of the final routine score. The top eight finishers advance to Saturday’s finals.

Competition continues Friday at the Flickinger Aquatic Center in Buffalo. Admission for finals events is $6.00.
