16-17, 18-19 Finals End with a Bang
Sacramento, Arizona Win Team Competitions

The 16-17 and 18-19 final competitions ended Saturday with seven different teams taking the top spots in the eight events. Sacramento won double gold with the Pirouettes of Texas, Indy Synchro, Tampa Bay, Redwood Empire (Calif.), Dade Co. (Fla.) and the Arizona Aqua Stars each taking one.

The day kicked off with the trio competition. Vanessa Mosharaf, Jennifer Baron and Christine Grisham of the Pirouettes of Texas topped the field in the 16-17 age group defeating Sacramento's Katherine Norris, Chelsey St. Pierre-Bennett and Andrea Valoppi by a near point 76.943 to 75.959.

In the 18-19 trio competition, Indy Synchro's Corenn Cookerly, Elizabeth Hatch and Karen Meyer scored a composite 77.204 to win the competition by nearly two points. Ashley LeRoy, Layla Smith and Alix Bogehold of Rocky Mountain Splash finished second at 75.821.

In the 16-17 duet competition, the Pirouettes of Texas and Sacramento switched spots with Norris and St. Pierre-Bennett taking top honors with a 77.492 and Mosharaf and Baron finishing second at 77.159.

Tampa Bay's Ashley Strayer and Rachel Simon placed first in the 18-19 duet with a 77.140, while Alaina Hill and Tracey Freeman of Buffalo, last year's seventh place finishers in 16-17, took second scoring a 75.359.

The top finishers in the 16-17 solo competition were within a point of each other. Redwood Empire's (Calif.) Emily VanVleck, last year's seventh place finisher, took top honors in 16-17 scoring a 78.592. Lyssa Wallace finished 0.385 behind at 78.207. In 18-19 solos, Dade Co.'s (Fla.) Celia Gonzalez held on to take top honors posting a score of 78.915. Jaime Pietras of Chester Co. (Penn.) finished second at 78.124.

The events wrapped up with the 16-17 and 18-19 team finals. Sacramento came away with the 16-17 title posting a 76.809 with Cerritos (Calif.) finishing second at 75.511. The Arizona Aqua Stars topped defending champions, Cincinnati, to take the 18-19 title scoring a 77.549 to their 77.230.
