U.S. Duet Fourth at Olympic Qualification Tournament
Team to swim Free Routine Saturday

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The U.S. duet of Alison Bartosik and Anna Kozlova finished fourth at the 2004 Olympic Qualification Tournament for Synchronized Swimming Friday in Athens, Greece. The duo posted a free routine score of 96.167 and total composite 95.668 to earn a berth to the Olympic Games in August.

The placement order remained the same from the 2003 World Championships. Top honors went to the Russian duet of Anastasia Davydova and Anastasia Ermakova who were near perfection in the free routine scoring a 99.000 and a final composite 98.667. Miya Tachibana and Miho Takeda of Japan claimed second with a composite 97.667, while the Spanish duo of Gemma Mengual and Paola Tirados finished third after scoring a composite 96.251.

Thursday’s technical routine marks were weighted to 50 percent and combined with 50 percent of today’s free routine scores to determine the final composite scores. The same formula will be used with the team routines.

All four duets will move on to the Olympic Games in August. Those remaining will swim in Round 2 Sunday to determine the final 20 routines.

The team free competition will be held on Saturday with the top four teams qualifying to the Olympic Game in August. The final four will be determined in Round 2 on Sunday as well.

The top eight teams and 24 duets from the tournament advance to the 2004 Olympic Games in August.
