President's Message

From Duke Zielinski, President USSS; June 2009

Hello everyone!

Summer is upon us and that means it is time for the largest synchronized swimming meet in the world! Competition starts on Saturday, June 27 at the Esynchro Age Group Championships in Gainesville, Florida. More than 1000 of our top athletes from all areas of the country will compete in solo, duet, trio and team events as well as figure competitions. In addition, swimmers will be selected for final trials for the 11-12 and 13-15 National Teams. I look forward to seeing many returning swimmers, coaches, and parents as well as meeting many of you who will be attending your first national synchro event. I wish all of you the best of luck and I am sure you will perform spectacularly. Make sure you use these last few days of practice to prepare for all of the influences you will encounter at the meet- competitors, teams, music, parents and crowds in the stands, judges, the pool, nerves, excitement and everything else you will see, hear and feel. Most importantly, enjoy the experience!

We have two exciting things for you at the Esynchro Age Group Championships. On Saturday, June 27, Dennis Frare, a trainer for the Disney Institute, who spoke at our January Board of Directors Meeting, will be with us to experience his first synchronized swimming competition. On Monday, June 29, our National Team will be demonstrating its routines and conducting an autograph session. The Team initially trained at the Ohio State University and is now training in Florida in preparation for the FINA World Championships. Please come support our National Team athletes!

The United States Aquatic Sports Convention will take place Sept. 14-20 in Rosemont, Ill.  This is where of the Board of Directors will be elected as well as the At-Large members of the Board of Governors and members of some committees. It is also where new rules and regulations are discussed, revised and voted on. This is a legislative year which means that there will be new legislation regarding figures, competitions, eligibility, trials procedures, etc. that must be voted upon. There will also be new figures and routine elements from the FINA Congress in Rome. Many of you are delegates to the convention representing your association or zone, but even if you are not, you are welcome to attend the meetings. Get involved and help support our great organization. Bring ideas and let your voice be heard. You must register to attend the meetings. Convention information is posted on the website. Get the information and register now. We want your help!

All the Best,

Duke
